Bruria Efune

I’m Bruria Efune, a Chabadnik living in Be’er Sheva. In normal life I’m the co-founder of a new yishuv called Ohr Chabad—which is about to start construction, and I write for chabad.org’s news section.

I’ve lived here for almost 10 years, through several intensive and rocket-heavy operations. In my experience, it’s important not to be glued to the news at times like this, and not to expose yourself to horrors any more than necessary. That’s why I started writing daily summaries of what’s going on. I also occasionally share my own perspective of what it’s like living in southern Israel during war, and the efforts I’m involved in.

Chabad of Eilat has been helping the 70,000 displaced Israelis who survived the October 7th nightmare, only to end up homeless. While they may be physically safe now, tending to their basic needs and emotional security is an emergency, and Rabbi Mendi and Chanie Klein are at the forefront of that mission.

The Chabad of Ofakim soup kitchen, which is feeding thousands of people living in poverty who have been further affected after the local Hamas massacre:
